He has been devoted to helping those suffering from obesity since his first years as a surgeon, and was instrumental in developing a bariatric surgical program during his training at the Guthrie Clinic in the late 1990s.

Currently, his research interests include Laparoscopic Gastric Band surgery for the treatment of obesity in Adolescents and Laparoscopic Gastric Band surgery and Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy in “Low BMI” patients.

Dr. Pinnar was awarded the Venable Merit Scholarship for outstanding academic achievement at Hampden-Sydney College and was honered with membership to Alpha Chi Sigma, a National Chemistry Honor Fraternity. In addition, he earned the position of Chief Surgical Resident at Guthrie Clinic.
