Dr. Rachel Moore is a highly skilled surgeon specializing in bariatric surgery. With more than a decade of experience, she has helped hundreds of patients reclaim control of their health. She is the only female bariatric surgeon in her area and has a special interest in women’s health and diseases that commonly affect women.
Dr Moore is the Founder of Moore Metabolics. She is also proud to have reopened the bariatric surgery program at Louisiana State University, after it was closed for seven years following Hurricane Katrina. She is passionate about pioneering minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Dr Rachel Moore is the founding President of the Louisiana state chapter of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and currently serves as a Board member-at-large. She holds the Louisiana State Medical Society seat on the Louisiana Health Care Commission, a group that advises the Department of Insurance.
Dr. Moore serves on several national committees for the ASMBS, specifically the Access to Care, Insurance, and Graduate Medical Education committees. She recently presented at a national ASMBS conference, speaking about laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and gastroesophageal reflux disease.
With more than 10 years of surgical experience, Dr. Moore has performed hundreds of surgeries. She is highly skilled in advanced laparoscopic procedures including gastric banding, gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and hernia repair. In addition to her private practice, Rachel Moore, MD is the Chief of the section of Metabolic Surgery at LSU and works at the interim Louisiana Public Hospital caring for bariatric patients and teaching students and residents.
Dr. Rachel Moore is an active researcher in the field of bariatric medicine, currently working on the Clinical Outcomes Study for Morbid Obesity Subjects (COSMOS) Project. The goal of COSMOS is to develop and refine treatment approaches for obesity in underserved populations.
Dr. Moore is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, Obesity Action Coalition, Louisiana State Medical Society, Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, Association of Women Surgeons, Louisiana chapter of ASMBS and the Spencer Society.
