Dr. Mark Fusco is a highly experienced bariatric surgeon, serving as the Medical Director of the LifeShape Advanced Bariatric Center of Florida, in Melbourne. He has successfully completed over 800 weight loss surgeries and performs the majority of LAP-BAND adjustments at his Center. Dr. Fusco has extensive research credits and has been published in several medical journals. He is invited to lecture and present his research at meetings across the United States, as well as internationally.
Dr. Fusco is a pioneer in bariatric surgery and has been performing advanced laparoscopic surgery since 1994. He specializes in the Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band and trains other surgeons in this procedure. He was also selected as Allergan’s first US proctor for placing and removing the BIB.
Dr. Fusco has served as the Medical Director of LifeShape Advanced Bariatrics Center of Florida since 2003. Additionally, he holds leadership positions as Preceptor and Proctor for Allergan Health and is an Assistant Professor at University of Central Florida Medical School.
Dr. Mark Fusco is well-published, having published several manuscripts and dozens of abstracts. Among his scientific journal credits are the Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, Chest, Surgical Endoscopy, and Surgery for Obesity And Related Diseases.
Dr. Fusco is recognized for his expertise in bariatric surgery and has presented laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) research nationally and around the world. He has presented research at international meetings including the American Association of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, Society of Critical Care Medicine Educational & Scientific Symposium, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Dr. Fusco completed a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at Vanderbilt University. He received special training and certification in placement of the LAP-BAND from the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. With more than 800 bariatric surgeries, nearly a decade of experience in the field, and among the largest amount of experience in the US with the Bioenteric Intragastric Balloon, Dr. Fusco is a highly experienced surgeon.
Dr. Fusco is heavily involved in research and has been a primary investigator for numerous studies, including most recently the LAP-BAND AP Experience (APEX) Study, Allergan’s BioEnterics Intragastric Balloon (BIB) Study, and the Hero Study, a Study of Clinical Outcomes and Healthcare Resource Expenditures associated with the Treatment of Obesity using the LAP-BAND AP® System. Dr. Fusco also has extensive clinical trial experience in surgical critical care, with a focus on prevention of venous thromboembolism and post-operative nausea and vomiting.
Dr. Fusco stays professionally connected as an active member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Mark Fusco, MD was named one of “America’s Top Surgeons” by the Consumers’ Research Council of America. Additionally, he has received the DuPont Pharmaceuticals/ACCP Young Investigator Award and was awarded best presentation at the Annual Meeting of the Southern Medical Association/Southern Chapter of the American College of Chest Physicians.
