Dr. Hans Schmidt is one of New Jersey’s most experienced bariatric surgeons and is recognized as a pioneer in laparoscopic weight loss surgery techniques. His practice offers a comprehensive weight loss program, with a strong emphasis on post-operative nutrition and lifestyle. Dr. Schmidt has published several academic papers and has presented research at dozens of national meetings.
Dr. Hans Schmidt is recognized as a minimally invasive bariatric surgery pioneer in New Jersey. His comprehensive weight loss practice has the largest degree of laparoscopic weight loss surgery experience in the state, offering Lap-Band (gastric band), Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, and gastric sleeve procedures.
As a leader in his field, Dr. Schmidt has held the positions of Director of the Bariatric Surgery Center and Director of Surgical Clinics at the Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, New Jersey. Additionally, he has served as a Clinical Instructor in Surgery since 1998 and has held several leadership positions with the New Jersey State Society of Bariatric Surgeons, including President, Vice President and Secretary.
Dr. Schmidt is well-published and has authored numerous manuscripts, cooperative group trial publications, and book chapters. He has been published in respected journals in his field, such as Obesity Surgery, Surgical Endoscopy, and Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases.
Dr. Hans Schmidt is nationally recognized as an expert in bariatric surgery and has been invited to many lectures throughout the country. He has completed several advanced surgical courses with other leaders in the field on procedures such as the Lap-Band, Realize Band, and gastric bypass.
Between Dr. Schmidt and his colleagues, Advanced Laparoscopic Associates has the most extensive experience in laparoscopic bariatric surgery in New Jersey. Dr. Schmidt has more than a decade of specialized surgical experience.
Dr. Schmidt has an ongoing commitment to research. He has been a Principal Investigator for Allergan’s Bioenterics Intragastric Balloon (BIB) FDA Trial since 2008. He was previously involved in research about septic and hemorrhagic shock, as well as cancer of the head and neck.
Dr. Schmidt is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, the Medical Society of New Jersey, and the New Jersey Society of Bariatric Surgeons.
Hans Schmidt, MD, was named in New Jersey Top Doctors in Bariatric Surgery in 2007 and 2008. He was also one of New York’s Top 100 Minimally Invasive Surgeons in New York Magazine and earned the Outstanding Resident Award from the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgery in 1997.
