Dr. Barry Greene is a highly-regarded and experienced surgeon, performing weight loss procedures in the Washington D.C. area since 2001. He is a pioneer in the field and has served in several leadership roles, including Director of Bariatric Surgery at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and President of the Maryland Chapter of the ASMBS. Dr Greene has been honored with several awards and has taught advanced laparoscopic techniques to residents and other surgeons. 
Pioneer
Dr. Greene is a pioneer in surgery and is credited with creating a Laparoscopic surgery program while in the United States Air Force. His practice was also first in the D.C. metro area to offer the less invasive single incision procedures for both the Gastric Band and Gastric Sleeve.

Dr. Barry Greene is the President of the Maryland Chapter of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). He also serves as the Director of Bariatric Surgery at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. He has also taught several courses in Laparoscopic surgery to other surgeons, fellows, and residents.

Dr. Barry Greene has been published in several scientific journals, including the Journal of Applied Biochemistry, the Annals of Vascular Surgery, and the American Journal of Surgery.

Dr. Greene is nationally recognized as an expert bariatric surgeon, and has been invited to speak at presentations across the country. His most recent presentations were “Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery” at George Washington University Medical School and “ Technical Aspects of Sleeve Gastrectomy” at the Virginia Bariatric Society meeting.

Dr. Greene has been a bariatric surgeon since 2001, practicing at Advanced Weight Loss Surgery, as well as serving as Director of Bariatric Surgery at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital since 2004. Prior to his specialization in bariatrics, Barry Greene, MD was a busy general surgeon, specializing in advanced laparoscopic surgery.
