Dr. Alana Chock is board certified in General Surgery, is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and has been certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine. While serving on the faculty at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center, she trained hundreds of surgeons and residents in the field of minimally invasive surgery. In 2006, she was recognized as an outstanding leader, as recipient of the Intraoperative Teaching Award. Dr. Chock joined the bariatric team at Northwest Weight Loss Surgery in 2008 and performs hundreds of weight loss surgeries each year.

Dr. Chock is recognized as a pioneer in the field of bariatrics. Currently, in addition to her work as a bariatric surgeon at Northwest Weight Loss Surgery, she serves as the Cosmetic Services Director, recognizing some of the concerns that patients have with skin laxity and excess skin after weight loss surgeries.

Successful Leader
As a leader in bariatrics, Dr. Alana Chock has trained hundreds of surgeons and residents in minimally invasive surgery techniques while on the faculty at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center. In addition, she served as Director of the University’s Hernia Center.

Well Published
Dr. Chock has numerous academic publications, including work published in the journal Surgical Endoscopy. She also created a video about the Removal of an Eroding Gastric Band after Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass that was accepted for presentation at the American College of Surgeon Meeting in 2007.

Nationally Recognized
Dr. Alana Chock has been invited to lecture at surgical meetings and conferences both nationally and internationally. She is recognized for her expertise in bariatric procedures, specifically in advanced laparoscopic techniques. Recently Dr Chock became board certified by American Board of Obesity Medicine. This is a new national program that specifically recognizes physicians who specialize in obesity.

Highly Experienced
Dr Alana Chock completed fellowship training in Advanced Laparoscopy at the Texas Endosurgery Institute. Before joining Northwest Weight Loss Surgery in 2008, Dr. Chock served as the Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of the UCSD Hernia Center.

Professionally Connected
Dr. Alana Chock is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She also is a member and serves on committees for the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. In addition, she is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Award Winning
Dr. Chock has been honored with several academic awards including the Intraoperative Teaching Award in 2006. She was also awarded the Chairman’s Prize and the Resident Teaching Award in 2001, for her exceptional leadership at the University of California, San Diego.
