Doctors of Weight Loss Inaugural Expert, Dr. Daniel Cottam, is participating in a national pilot program offering band with plication weight-loss surgery. Salt Lake Regional Medical Center, where Dr. Cottam serves on staff as a bariatric surgeon, is the first hospital in Utah performing this minimally-invasive procedure.
A band with plication procedure is a laparoscopic adjustable gastric band with the addition of stomach fold below the band. The insertion of the band creates a sleeve-like pouch by in-folding the stomach.
Dr. Cottam explained that patients who undergo this new surgery are expected to see faster and more durable weight loss, with reduced complications such as slips or erosions when compared to standard gastric banding.
