Doctors of Weight Loss Expert Announced as ACOS’ President-Elect

Fort Worth, TX (Sept 26, 2011) – The American College of Osteopathic Surgeons (ACOS) has announced the results of their 2011 election. Adam Smith, DO, FACOS of Texas has been elected the next President-Elect of ACOS. Dr. Smith has served as the Secretary-Treasurer of the ACOS, as well as Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee.

Dr. Smith practices in Fort Worth, TX, where his surgical weight loss program, Fort Worth Lap-Band, has earned the prestigious designation as a Bariatric Center of Excellence from the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. As a pioneer in his field, Dr. Smith was one of the first surgeons in the state to perform a gastric band procedure. He has since placed 3000 Lap-Bands. With a strong involvement in research, Dr. Smith is the principle investigator on several ongoing and completed studies.

Dr. Smith also serves as an Inaugural Expert for Doctors of Weight Loss, where he collaborates with other top bariatric surgeons around the country to provide a resource for people wanting to educate themselves on the latest news and research on obesity and bariatrics.

In reference to the election results, Dr. Smith said, “I have been part of this organization in a variety of capacities since the beginning of my career as a surgeon. It’s an honor to now be chosen to serve as President-Elect of ACOS.”

The American College of Osteopathic Surgeons was founded in 1926, and has continued its mission since then. ACOS strives to “assure excellence in osteopathic surgical care through education, advocacy, leadership development, and the fostering of personal and professional relationships”. Represented by ACOS are the disciplines of General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Urologic Surgery, Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery as well as peripheral Vascular Surgery, practiced by Osteopathic Surgeons in the US.
